COMPETION of MUSICAL COMPOSITION “Marcello Abbado” 2021

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Art. 1 The Competition is open to musicians of all nationalities up to 36 years of age on Ocober 31, 2021.

Art. 2 The composition of duration from 3 to 6 minutes for female voice accompanied by piano or other musical instrument (freely chosen by the composer), must be unedited and not to have received a reward in other competition, and shall bear a title of museum, cathedral, library or other site of Italian historical interest (please see list of suggested but not obligatory titles) and be recognizable by a motto on the musical score. The text (either original written by the composer or by other poet) may be in English, Italian or French.

Art. 3 Three copies of the composition without the author’s name, but bearing a motto for recognition, together with a sealed envelope bearing only the motto and containing the author’s name, address, E mail, curriculum, copy of ID card or passport, together with signed declaration that the composition submitted be unedited and never previously rewarded, shall be sent before March 30th 2021 to Ente Concerti Castello di Belveglio, v. Mazzini 9, 14040 Belveglio (Asti), Italy. At the same time, PDF copy of the score bearing only the motto of the composition shall be sent to: mkessick@libero.it.

Art. 4 Enrollment fee of Euro 25 must be sent by March 30, 2021 to Ente Concerti Castello di Belveglio by bank transfer c/o Banca di Asti: IBAN it73i0608547490000000020410.

Art. 5 In the event more than one composition be sent by a composer, an individual composition must be identifiable by its own motto and accompanied by the envelope containing requested information as specified in Art. 3.

Art. 6 The jury of the Competition will be composed of five eminent composers, professors in Italian conservatories, who will effect numerical votes, the media of which for assigment of prizes will be announced by April 15, 2021. Jurors’ decisions cannot be appealed; awards can be ex-aequo, and it is faculty of the jury not to assign prizes in the event of inadquante value of the compositions presented.

 

AWARDS

FIRST PRIZE for composition with grade of at least 96/100 500 Euro
SECOND PRIZE for composition with grade of at least 91/100 250 Euro
THIRD PRIZE for composition with grade of at least 86/100 150 Euro
FOURTH PRIZE for composition with grade of at least 80/100 100 Euro

The composition with highest grade of at least 98/100 will be published by SCONFINARTE EDITIONS of Milan (Italy). Two of rewarded compositions will be selected by the Ente Concerti Castello di Belveglio to be programmed for performance during the 2021/2022 concert season.

All participating composers will receive a certificate of participation, and to those receiving awards a Diploma of Merit.
A CERTIFICATE of DIDACTICAL MERIT will be given to the PROFESSORS of prize winning composers with grade of at least 80/100.

 


 

“John Philip Sousa”
COMPOSITION COMPETITION
for concert BAND

 

L’Ente Concerti Castello di Belveglio organizes the “John Philip Sousa” Competition for new music for the Band for composers of any nationality up to 36 years of age. The Competition aims to enrich the band music repertoire while honoring and making known new music by young composers.

The competition is divided in two categories: “Synphonic Band” (difficulty max 3-4) and “Youth Band” (difficulty max 1,5-2) . The scores of both categories will be judged for their instrumentation and artistic qualities.

A composer may participate in either or both categories by sending: by registerred mail on or before May 30, 2021 to Ente Concerti Castello di Belveglio, v. Mazzini 9, Belveglio (Asti), Italy two copies of the score bearing a “motto” on the title page, together with a sealed envelope (identifiable by the same motto as on the score) which contains: name, date and place of birth, address, E-mail, telephone, title and instrumentation of the composition, and signed declaration that the piece be an original composition which has not been rewarded in another competition, A PDF copy of the composition (eventually with MP3 or wav) identifiable only by the same “motto” is to be sent by E-mail to: mkessick@libero.it.

If the composition is rewarded for performance, upon request individual instrumental parts must be furnished by the composer in time for a performance. The jury will be composed of famous conductors of bands, Conservatory professors and composers, whose evaluations will be made known and transmitted to participants on or before June 30th, 2021.

Enrollment fee of Euro 25 for each composition must be sent by bank remittance to: Ente Concerti Castello di Belveglio c/o Banca di Asti, Agency in Mombercelli, IBAN it74i0608547490000000020410 before May 30, 2021.

(grade of difficulty max 1,5 to 2) meriting vote of at least 98/100

Euro 200 for the best composition of lady composer
meriting vote of at least 97/100 (if not already rewarded)

Eufonia Editions will publish the composition meriting the winning First Prize of both categories. Rewarded composer/directors of bands willi receive scores offerred by Marani Editions. WBDI will assign a Diploma of Merit to the best composition by a woman composer receiving vote of at least 97/100.

Certificate of Merit will be given to all composers receiving vote of at least 85/100. Compositions winning the First Prize of both categories will be programmed for performance by the Banda “G. Cotti” of Asti during the 2021/2022 season.

XXIV “Giulietta Simionato”
International Competition for singers

(opera and vocal chamber music)

 

Art. 1 The Competition is open to participants of all nationalities who are not over 36 years of age as of October 31, 2020 (sopranos, mezzo-sopranos, contraltos, tenors, baritones, basses). The enrollment must be made before April 15, 2021. Late enrollments can be made if approved by the Direction of the Competition.

Art. 2 Auditions will be at the Teatro Orpheus of Torino (Turin) Italy in accordance with the following calendar:

April 29th 10 AM roll call and Elimination Trials
April 30th Semi finals and concert of finalists

Art. 3 A candidate can participate both in section A “opera” and/or section B “chamber music”, but the quota of enrollment is individual (section A Euro 60; section B Euro 40).

Art. 4 For admission to the Competition, candidates must prepare three arias.

  • Elimination audition: one freely chosen aria.
  • Semi final trial:section A (Opera) a second aria selected from the two arias not yet presented. Section B (“chamber music”) a composition by contemporary or avant-garde authordi (example: Schoenberg, Berio, etc.).
  • Final trial: Two arias (to be concorded with the jury).

Participating singers can be accompanied on the piano by pianists made available by the Ente Concerti (see enrollment form) or may be accompanied by their own pianists.

Art. 5 Prizes up to Euro 3.000 will be assigned to winners at the discretion of the Jury. Winners will be selected also for concerts during the 2021/2022 season.

Art. 6 The Jury of eminent international authorities shall make their decisions by

  1. admission to semi-final trial by “Yes or No”
  2. For semi-final and final trials: secret votes with numerical grades (from 60 to 100) from which the media of the votations given by the jury shall be calculated after elimination of
    the highest and lowest numerical grade.

Art. 7 The first audition will be before the jury while the other trials will be open to the public.

Art. 8 The Jury will announce their decisions at the conclusion of each phase of the Competition.

Art. 9 Singers who pass the first eliminatory trial will receive a DIPLOMA DI MERITO with vote assigned by the Jury.

Art. 10 The decisions of the Jury are unappeallable.

Art. 11 Names of the members of the Jury shall be announced before the beginning of the Competition.

Art. 12 The organizers of the Competition reserve the right to take video-tape, film, radio, TV, ecc. of the various trials and concert, and nothing will be due to performers for their participation.

Art. 13 Participants of the Competition shall present a document of identity (passport, ID card or other valid document) and, if rewarded in money, their fiscal code.

Art. 14 Time of rehearsal with pianists furnished by the Competition shall be reserved by telephoning (0039) 0141 955867 or 335 5458310.

Art. 15 Enrollment in the Competition implies acceptance of the present regulations besides the reservation on behalf of the Artistic Direction to make modifications.

Art. 16 The enrollment form must be sent by April 15, 2021 to the Ente Concerti Castello di Belveglio together with payment of the enrollment fee of Euro 60 (or Euro 40) by bank transfer to the Ente Concert, Banca di Asti IBAN: it74i0608547490000000020410 SWIFT CASRIT 22.
